KravMaga Self defense training programme for Women Employees
As part of Azadi ka Amrut Mohotsav (AKAM), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre organized a self defence training programme for its women employees "KarvMaga". KravMagawhich means Contact-Combat is an Israeli self defense technique which is based on natural instincts, which eventually will become part of muscle memory. As part of activities at the Centre for creating awareness about elimination of all forms of violence and discrimination against women and to ensure safety, security and holistic empowerment of women, a week long KravMaga training programme is being organized by the Internal Complaints Committee of VSSC from 21 to 26 Nov 2022. During AKAM the 75th year of Indian independence celebrations, 75 women employees were targeted to be trained. Response to the programme was overwhelming and there were more than 100 registrations. They are being trained in 3 batches. The training is imparted by Shri Hari Lal Chouhan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Bureau of Police Research & Development, New Delhi, with support from lady Police Officers of Kerala Police and CISF. The programme was inaugurated by Shri S Somanath, Chairman ISRO & Secretary, DOS, on 21 Nov 2022, 16:30 hrs, in the presence of Director, VSSC Dr S Unnikrishnan Nair, by handing over a symbolic 'Otta' a powerful tool used in Kalaripayattu - the traditional martial art of Kerala, to the Training officer Shri Hari Lal Chouhan, IPS. Director, LPSC Dr V Narayanan and Chief Controller VSSC Shri C Manoj spoke on the occasion. Chairperson, ICC SmtBeena AP welcomed the gathering. Chairman ISRO appreciated the initiative and stressed upon the importance and relevance of such programmes in empowering women to face any adverse situations. He suggested that a training team can be groomed and such training programmes conducted periodically for the benefit of a larger section.
